Detour planned Aug. 1-2 on Country Club Drive in Concord

Access to all businesses on busy street will remain open, city says.

Country Club Drive Northeast in Concord will be closed to through traffic Aug. 1 and 2 while Concord Electric Systems crews dig a trench across the roadway as part of an upgrade to an nearby electrical substation, according to a news release from the city of Concord.

For public and worker safety, motorists will be detoured around the work. The road is expected to reopen by Aug. 3.

Those traveling between Concord Parkway and Lake Concord Road Northeast should follow the posted detour, with Church Street North and Cloverleaf Parkway as alternate routes. Visit http://www.concordnc.gov/Departments/Transportation/Traffic-Information/Local-Information for more details.

All businesses and driveways along Country Club Drive will still be accessible during the project. The closure will be between S&D Auto Repair (119 Country Club Drive N.E.) and the Sportscenter (233 Country Club Drive N.E.).  Public access will still be available to both facilities, approaching from Concord Parkway and Lake Concord Road, respectively.

This project is part of a larger effort to renovate five unit substations built in the late 1960s. This particular substation was installed in 1969 to serve the Carolina Mall property and surrounding commercial and residential customers.  It serves about 1,100 customers.  Construction on the substation is expected to be complete by Dec. 1.
