Dispute leads to Duke building evacuation

A dispute involving a contractor led to an incident in which employees were forced to evacuate a Duke Energy building briefly Friday morning in the uptown area.

It happened about 9:30 a.m. at a Duke building on South College Street. Duke spokesman Tim Pettit said it started with “an incident involving a contractor.”

“Some fire alarms were pulled,” Pettit said.

Charlotte firefighters and police officers responded to the alarm, and employees got out of the building safely. They were permitted back inside a short time later.

Pettit said Duke Energy officials are working with Charlotte-Mecklenburg police and the Charlotte Fire Department on an investigation of the incident.
