Nearly 200 cats rescued from 'horrific' conditions in Mooresville home

By NewsChannel 36

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- More than 200 animals were rescued from a Mooresville home Friday.

Iredell County Animal Services said 198 cats and three dogs were found at a home on Creek Branch Drive.

One official called the conditions at the house "horrific and deplorable,"--so much so that 50 of the cats will have to be euthanized.

An overwhelming odor of urine and the sight of feces dominated the scene, according to Animal Services, who said their first priority was to take care of the animals.

Rescue groups from around the area were called to help, including one in Charlotte.

Officials hope the surviving animals will be ready for adoptions next week.

Animal cruelty charges are pending against the homeowner.
