Originally from England, Sarah Ryberg has lived in Charlotte for the last 12 years and is a graduate of UNC Charlotte. After two whirlwind weddings - one in Charlotte and another in her homeland - Sarah is settling into married life and learning what it takes to be a Mrs. You can reach Sarah at sarahmryberg@yahoo.com

Emily from “The Bachelorette” was looking for love, romance, and a man she could enjoy her everyday routine with. Having been inspired by something I read on “Sparkle Scribbles,” and watching all the romantic dates on “The Bachelorette,” I started thinking a lot about what romance is. Obviously it depends a lot on the relationship, but throughout my years with Robert, I’ve learned that it means more than your typical Hollywood scenario (you know, quiet dinners and flowers). After twisting his arm a few times, and offering some good ol’ fashion bribery, I got Robert to share his thoughts on romance with me.

Sarah: I find it romantic whenever Robert is willing to watch a Disney movie with me. If you’ve been reading along with my blogs, you know I have a slight Disney obsession. Robert doesn’t like Disney and avoids it when he can. So when he does sit down and watch a movie with me, I know he’s doing it because it’s important to me. It makes me feel special and reminds me that he cares about my interests, even if he doesn’t share them.

Robert: One of the most romantic things for me is our shared love of video games. I love it when Sarah helps me play my video games, plays a game with me, or even just watches me play. I enjoy her company, and like she said about Disney movies, it makes me feel like she cares about my interests.

Sarah: When Robert cooks me dinner or helps me with the chores, I go weak. Maybe that makes me a little weird, but after a long day at work, I really appreciate his help. It shows me that we’re a partnership, and when he lets me sit back and relax, I feel taken care of. What’s more romantic than that?

Robert: Speaking of looking after someone, I find it romantic when Sarah takes care of me when I’m sick. She makes sure I have everything I need, like soup and tissues. It reminds me that she cares about me and my wellbeing.

Both: We love our weekly date night. Every Tuesday we have some variation of tacos and watch “The Big Bang Theory” together. There’s nothing more comforting than curling up in your own home, watching a great TV show, and enjoying delicious comfort foods. It’s a simple date night, but it’s the comfort of it that’s so romantic. We are at that stage in our relationship where we don’t have to go out to have the perfect date night. We can stay in our own home and still end the night on cloud 9.
