Reed Gold Mine panning fees going up

MIDLAND -- It’ll cost a little more, starting Wednesday, to strike it rich at the Reed Gold Mine State Historic Site in Cabarrus County.

State officials say the price of panning for gold will increase, to help the historic site meet operating expenses.

The current fee for individuals will climb from $2 to $3. And the fee for those who are with scheduled groups will go up from $1.50 to $2. The gold mine site is at 9621 Reed Mine Road, in southeast Cabarrus County.
