Dr. Francis Robicsek, vice president of International Medical Outreach at Carolinas HealthCare System, received the first Excellence in Diversity Award at the hospital systems 10th annual Diversity and Inclusion symposium Tuesday.
Through the international program, Robicsek takes medical equipment that is no longer being used by Carolinas Medical Center and raises money to have it refurbished and shipped to under-equipped hospitals in Central American countries such as Guatemala, Nicaragua and Honduras. In July, he organized a trip to Belize with CMC physicians who assisted with the countrys first open heart surgery.
