Toll lane puts a Band-Aid on major wound; devise better fix
The writer attended NCDOTs toll lane workshop Wednesday.
The proposed toll lane for I-77 wont do anything to help, doesnt have funding and requires millions to administer.
Anything from a girl in a bikini to a minor bump-up can bring this vital corridor and four area towns Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson and Mooresville to a complete standstill for hours.
Nearly 50 years after construction, some profit-minded company wants us to believe they can fix this section of interstate by simply installing a toll lane for certain vehicles. Yet full funding doesnt even exist for just the construction phase of this plan!
Im not buying any of it, and I dont want to pay for it.

In response to Congress passes bill for Marine families hurt by tainted water (Aug. 1):
Marine Corp at fault for tainted Lejeune water, must step up
The Marine Corps lack of honor regarding Camp Lejeunes water poisoning amounts to treason. Still, the Corps refuses to release all the information.
Veterans, stand up for the fallen in our own country. There is no honor no honor in the Marine Corps until those in the Corps responsible for this mass destruction of health and life are brought to justice.

In response to Will you eat Chick-fil-A today? Or make a real difference? (Aug. 1 Opinion):
Writer should dismount high horse, follow her own advice
Im quite sure columnist Elizabeth Richardson is a very nice person, but I cant help but feel that she has not, as she says, completely dismounted her judgmental high horse.
All people, including Christians, express their convictions in many different ways, and eating a chicken sandwich might well be one of them.
Perhaps Ms. Richardsons real objective would have been better served on this occasion had she followed the advice she put forward to step out of line and stand in silence.

Christians love gays, oppose lifestyle; just making that clear
Christians are not against gays. We love everyone no matter what their lifestyle is.
But as Christians, we are called by God to see others as He sees them.
As Christians we also need to stand up for our beliefs and support companies that have these Christian values.
The gays will be supporting their cause on Friday.

In response to Democrats move to formally support gay marriage (July 31):
Dem support for gay marriage leaves voters like me in a bind
This is a lose/lose situation for Christian Democrats.
Do we vote GOP and turn our backs on 10 percent of our people who through no fault of their own have to make a choice between feeding their families or getting expensive health care?
Or, do we vote Democrat and stand with the 3 percent who go against Gods law and marriage laws in most states?
President Obama and the DNC, leave these decisions to the states where the voices of the people are being heard loud and clear.
Or, be prepared for God-fearing Christian Democrats to stay home in November.

Congress shooting in the dark with pushback on online ammo
Six thousand rounds of ammo sounds like an arsenal to the uninformed, but its not. If one goes to the range on a regular basis, 6,000 rounds goes fairly quickly.
Now, buying anything on the Internet is recorded in cyberspace in perpetuity. Buy the same item at K-mart and it is far more difficult to trace.
So these know-nothing Congress persons and senators put forward amendments to register large online ammo purchases.
How ignorant.

In response to Widening on Rea Road rankles homeowners (July 31):
Rea Road project a waste; homeowners concerns ignored
Senior Project Manager Imad Fakhreddin said No one has told me, We dont want this project. Apparently, he wasnt listening or doesnt recall conversations with me and other Rea Road area residents during project review meetings. Disagreements and specific complaints were clearly voiced:
1. Wouldnt a paint brush and reprogramming signals at Rea Road and N.C. 51 improve safety?
2. Is it really worth $22.5 million and the destruction of a classic country lanes beauty to add 1.4 miles of bicycle path?
3. No amount of money will improve safety on this stretch; only drivers paying attention can do that.
On the other hand, Its nice to know the city has plenty of money to fund this wasteful project.
