Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a man in connection with an armed robbery Thursday night at a northeast Charlotte convenience store.
Clavon William Sanders, 36, of Charlotte was arrested and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to a news release from Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. He was being held in jail under $150,000 bond.
About 11 p.m. Thursday, a suspect went into the Fast Mart on Tom Hunter Road, located near Interstate 85 on the northern outskirts of the Hidden Valley neighborhood. He robbed the clerk and a customer at gunpoint, police said.
The suspect fired the gun once, but no one was wounded by the shot. Then he left the convenience store in a car waiting for him, police said.
The clerk called 911 and gave a detailed description of the suspect and the man driving the car, police said. An off-duty officer spotted men fitting the description on Sugar Creek and Cinderella roads, and another officer pulled them over on Gibbon Road.
Police said the passenger jumped from the vehicle and ran, escaping officers. But the driver, identified as Sanders, was arrested.
