Heat relief available for Charlotte seniors

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Senior Centers have close to 250 free fans to help county residents beat the heat. Anyone over the age of 59, or residents on disability, are eligible to receive a fan to help remain safe during soaring temperatures, according to a statement released Monday.

When local senior centers ran out of fans during a record-breaking heat wave earlier this summer, individuals and community groups began gathering donations. New Birth Church donated $4,000 to put toward fan purchases.

Seniors will need to bring a drivers license or state ID providing proof of age and current Mecklenburg County address. Mecklenburg County residents receiving disability will need to provide proof of disability income and their current address. One fan per person.
