Jan Tiffany, 43, of South Charlotte and her husband Chuck are a perfect entrepreneur – and mompreneur - business team. Jan says Chuck always knew he would run his own business and luckily it didn’t take much to convince her to join in the fun, work and rewards of owning a business. Their success in the private party business has expanded with Jumpin’ Jacks, Margarita Jacks, Sandbagit and LooseEnds, a personal assistance service.
MomsCharlotte.com is excited to host its Back to School Bash at Space Kidets on Monday, August 20 from 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. The event is FREE and there will be door prizes and lots of fun. Come connect with other parents, let the kids get tired and celebrate a summer well done.
Q. What made you decide to purchase Space Kidets?
A. We had considered it in the past and had negotiated (unsuccessfully) to take over when Pump It Up closed its doors.
Q. Did you ever think you would be party entrepreneurs?
A. Never in the party business but Chuck is the entrepreneur and he probably would say he always knew he would run his own businesses. With my experience teaching it seemed a good fit working with kids and moms.
Q. What exactly is Space Kidets?
A. Space Kidets focuses on offering "our party, your space." We feature a place to have your private party experience or group celebration. It's like an indoor playground along with an arcade and large party room. Summertime booms with "open play" day passes, but the primary draw is the private party option. It is very appealing to our families.
Q. So when you say private parties, does that mean the party goer gets the whole place to themselves?
A. The party is closed to the public for each area in the building. Parties begin in the inflatable area then go to the party room and end in the arcade.
Q.How much do parties run? Open play?
A. Parties start around $200, which is very competitive compared to other venues, and ours is the only private option. Open play is $8.
Q. Are you changing anything about Space Kidets?
A. We are making a few repairs and adding a new "toddler only" moonbounce as well as more video games and pinball machine for the arcade.
Q. What has been the feedback so far?
A. All the feedback is super positive. Parents love the private party option and kids love the equipment and arcade.
Q. How many people can Space Kidets hold?
A. The capacity is around 100 with the rotating spaces.
Q. Is Space Kidets for birthday parties only?
A. Our intent is to primarily service the private party demand.
Q. What types of things are in the arcade?
A. There are six video games, skee ball and pinball as well as six mini golf holes and air hockey. All token free.
Q. How hard has it been to juggle all three party businesses?
A. It has been very challenging, mainly because Space Kidets is open seven days a week in the summer.
Q. Where do you see yourself in a year from now?
A. We’d like to stabilize the indoor private party business at Space Kidets. We intend to cater to parents in Charlotte and surrounding areas who want the private venue option for their children.
Jumpin’ Jacks continues to grow and add new options within the rental industry, we want Space Kidets to grow and expand in the same direction.
