Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police detectives arrested a suspect Monday in connection with a string of bank robberies that started June 11.
Detectives arrested the man about 9 a.m. at the InTown Suites, police spokesman Officer Robert Fey said. Anthony Watson, 53, is charged with four counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, four counts of conspiracy and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
Police say Watson is responsible for four robberies that began June 11 at the SunTrust branch in the Galleria Shopping Center. On that day, a man wearing a gray hooded jacket and carrying a Bed Bath & Beyond bag robbed the bank around 9:45 a.m., authorities said.
On July 20, the same SunTrust was robbed by a suspect with a similar description but who wore a green and white jacket and an orange knit hat.
Authorities said the suspect struck a third time July 30 at the BB&T branch on West Arbors Drive, just off West Mallard Creek Church Road. And on Aug. 3, police believe the same man robbed a BB&T branch on Sardis Road North in the Galleria Shopping Center.
