National Poetry Slam kicks off in uptown Charlotte

About 400 poets will offer their best prose and rhymes to crowds across uptown Charlotte this week during National Poetry Slam, which opened Tuesday night.

Teams from across the country are competing in the five-day event that runs through Saturday.

Preliminary bouts will be held nightly at various Blumenthal Performing Arts venues, leading up to semifinals and finals competitions on Friday and Saturday. Various events also will be held during the day.
