Suspected meth lab found in Monroe motel room

By Rad Berky
NewsChannel 36

MONROE Investigators cleared people out of several rooms at a Monroe motel Friday night after finding what they said was a meth lab in one of the units.

Wearing protective suits, police entered a ground floor room at the Relax Inn on Highway 74 just after 9 p.m. Earlier, officers had arrested a man who was staying there but they have not released his name yet.

Further details about the case were not available on Saturday.

On Friday, a hazmat truck from the Monroe Fire Department was called to the motel. Meanwhile, people staying near the room with the suspected meth lab were moved to the other side of the motel.

“It was either get away from it or blow up,” said Steve Helms, who was staying in the room next door to the suspected lab. “There is no telling what would have happened.”
