Hummingbird Festival

Learn about these tiny migratory birds at the popular annual festival. Event includes workshops, natural play area, nature hikes, the “predators of the hummingbird” exhibit, bird banding demonstration and kids’ activities. Craft and food vendors will be on site. Free off-site parking with buses available.

Entertainment

Kannapolis Summer Entertainment Series

7:30 p.m. Friday. Village Park, 700 West C St., Kannapolis. cityofkannapolis.com

Enjoy live music and a movie at this outdoor, family-friendly event. Local band Time Sawyer performs at 7:30 p.m., and the movie “Adventures of Tin Tin” will be shown at dusk.

Music

Concerts on the Green in Davidson

6-8 p.m. Sunday. The Green at Main Street and Concord Road, Davidson. ci.davidson.nc.us/

The Rusty Knox Band will play Americana and bluegrass music. Bring blankets and lawn chairs. Parking is free around the event site. Vendors will sell food, and you can bring picnics and coolers.

Kids

MomsCharlotte Back to School Bash

Bring the kids to Space Kidets for some back-to-school fun. Kids bounce for free, and door prizes will be available. The event is free, but MomsCharlotte, the Observer’s website for parents, is accepting donations of school supplies.

Shakespeare

Charlotte Shakespeare Festival

Charlotte Shakespeare Festival is back with “Merchant of Venice” at Spirit Square through Aug. 26, Wednesdays through Sundays. No reservations required. Donations appreciated.
