3 hurt in SE Charlotte wreck

Three people were injured early Thursday in a two-vehicle wreck, and police say one car’s lights were not operating at the time of the collision.

The wreck happened shortly after 1 a.m. at East Independence Boulevard and Sardis Road North, police say. A van making a left turn from inbound Independence Boulevard to Sardis Road North was struck in the side by a car outbound on Independence.

The driver of the car suffered serious injuries and was taken by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center. Two occupants of the van suffered less-serious injuries, according to police.

Investigators say the outbound car apparently was being driven with its lights off. Police are awaiting toxicology test results as they continue their investigation.
