  • Maximize Fuel Efficiency:

    • Find the lowest gas prices on GasBuddy.com

    • Purchase NextGen Oil made from 50 percent recycled oil locally at Wal-Mart, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Advance Auto Parts and Auto Zone.

    • The Green Gas Save app helps monitor fuel efficiency

Gas prices are creeping up once again. It’s putting a bigger dent in our wallets right when we are taking our final summer trips and gearing up for the start of a new school year.

Maximizing the fuel efficiency of your vehicle is an easy way to Do Your Part no matter what you drive. Here are my top five ways to get the most out of every gallon:

1. Nix the aggressive driving

Speeding up and then quickly slamming on the brakes puts unnecessary wear and tear on your vehicle, and kills your fuel economy. Aggressive driving can reduce fuel mileage by as much as 33 percent!

2. Keep tires properly inflated

Check your tire pressure monthly. Proper tire pressure levels can be found in the owner’s manual. Get an accurate reading by measuring pressure when the tires have been idle for hours. Properly inflated tires can save you up to 8 cents on every gallon.

3. Lose the extra weight

For every 100 pounds of extra weight that you tote around in your car, you’re adding about 2 percent to your fuel costs.

4. Use cruise control on flat terrain

Use cruise control when you’re on flat terrain to maximize fuel efficiency, but switch to foot control when you’re driving through hilly areas.

5. Keep up with routine maintenance

Keeping your car well maintained will save you money at the pump. Get regular oil changes and make sure you’re using the proper oil. Change your filters regularly and timely tune-ups.

Incorporating some of these gas-saving tips will ensure you get the most of every drop of gas.
