Windstream seeks to fill 100 jobs at Matthews center

Arkansas-based Windstream Corp. is hosting a job fair next week in Charlotte to interview job candidates for 100 new positions opening at its call center in Matthews.

The openings at the telecommunications company are mostly regular customer care positions, but there are also inside sales and business sales positions, said George Struse, director of customer care in Matthews. The jobs will pay between $11 and $14 an hour, with an opportunity for commission.

The fair will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Holiday Inn Charlotte-University Place, 8520 University Executive Park Drive. Those who are interested in attending the job fair must first fill out a profile at Windstream’s website, www.windstream.com, Struse said.

Windstream, which is listed in the S&P 500, employs about 1,300 people in the Charlotte area and operates in 48 states and Washington, D.C., bringing in roughly $6 billion in annual revenue. Last year, it bought New York-based telecommunications company Paetec Holding Corp. in a $2.3 billion deal.

Shares of Windstream closed at $9.61 Thursday, up 0.21 percent.
