Foul play suspected in Catawba man’s disappearance

Observer staff reports

Authorities suspect foul play in the disappearance of a 71-year-old Catawba County man, reports the Hickory Daily Record.

Ken Mohler was last heard from around 8:05 p.m. Thursday, when he sent a text message to his boss, according to the Daily Record. He didn’t return home from work that night.

Mohler’s truck – with the keys in the ignition – was found Friday in the parking lot of Gregory Wood Products in Newton, where he works. His cellphone and another set of keys were buried in dirt nearby, reports the Daily Record.

Catawba County Sheriff Coy Reid told the newspaper that it’s possible Mohler was abducted.

Mohler was described as a 5-foot-5 white man who weighs about 200 pounds. He is bald and has hazel eyes and a gray goatee. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and work boots.

Anyone with information about Mohler’s disappearance is asked to call the Catawba County Sheriff's Office at 828-464-3112.
