Thunderstorms with heavy rain are moving through the Charlotte area early Sunday.
A broad area of showers and thunderstorms will continue to move northeast at 35 mph across the northeast upstate of South Carolina and the southern Piedmont of North Carolina. The strongest storms will affect Chester, York, Gastonia and Charlotte.
Some locations will see 1 to 2 inches of rain in around an hour. This amount of rain will cause localized urban flooding as the storms move across Charlotte. A prolonged period of frequent cloud to ground lighting will also accompany this batch of strong thunderstorms.
Highs today will be in the upper 70s. The chance of rain is 80%.

Mostly cloudy with showers. Lows in the 60s. Chance for rain is 30%.
Monday:
Partly sunny with scattered showers and maybe a storm. The chance for rain is 40%.
Extended forecast:
Rain chances drop off Tuesday and Wednesday. We will still see highs in the low to mid-80s.
