3 arrested in west Charlotte school break-in

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested three men who they said broke into the Ashley Park Academy on Belfast Drive last Thursday.

Police arrested Devon Stack, 19, Dequarius Chastain, 17, and Brian Gaddy, 20 and charged them with breaking and entering, larceny, conspiracy and resisting a public officer.

Police were dispatched to the academy around 9:30 p.m. Thursday after motion sensors in the school were activated. When officers arrived they saw all three suspects inside the school, running from the main office down a hallway.

Police then said the three ran out of the school through a back door and tried to run towards some nearby woods but were quickly caught by officers.

Police said they found several items from the school in their possession, including a laptop, graphing calculators and digital cameras.

Anyone with additional information concerning this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704.334.1600.
