Police: Woman robbed at knifepoint in Monroe

Police are searching for a man who robbed a woman at knifepoint Wednesday morning in Monroe.

Around 9 a.m., the woman was getting things out of her vehicle on King Street when a man came up behind her and put a knife to her side, according to Monroe police.

The man demanded money, police said, and the woman handed over cash. Then, the suspect ordered the woman to take him to a bank to get more money, but the woman refused. That’s when the man fled the scene on foot.

Police said the suspect was described as a black man who is 20-30 years old and between 5-foot-10 and 6 feet tall. He wore a black hat, a light gray long-sleeve shirt and light gray sweat pants. Police said he may have dreadlocks.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Union County Crime Stoppers at 704-283-5600. Tipsters may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
