Authorities have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a series of incidents in which objects were thrown onto Interstate 85 from Rowan County overpasses, causing damage to vehicles and injuring drivers.
The Rowan County Sheriffs Office said someone had thrown objects off the I-85 overpasses on Pine Ridge, Daugherty and Lentz roads. The tossed items damaged cars and, in some cases, hurt motorists.
The Sheriffs Office said investigators obtained warrants Wednesday for the arrest of Matthew Damion Parham in connection with two of the incidents. He was arrested at his home on Old Linn Road in China Grove, not far from the overpasses where objects were thrown.
When Parham was arrested, detectives discovered a riding lawn mower that was apparently stolen, the Sheriffs Office said.
Parham was charged with larceny, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. He was being held in Rowan County jail under a $10,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Detective T. Misenheimer at 704-216-8704 or Lt. Chad Moose at 704-216-8687.
