Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are searching Thursday for a robbery suspect with an extensive criminal history who cut off his electronic monitor.
Eric Dwayne Jones, 28, had been wearing the monitor since May 1 after posting a $50,000 bond, police said Thursday. But police said he cut off the monitor Wednesday evening and was last seen near Toddville Road and Freedom Drive.
Jones had been charged last December with three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. He also will be charged with interfering with an electronic monitoring device.
But police said Jones has an extensive criminal past, including 22 arrests in Mecklenburg County. Records show he has been arrested at least nine times in the past 3 years on charges like possession with intent to sell or distribute cocaine.
Police said Jones is the 23rd person to cut off an electronic monitor this year, compared to 17 in 2011.
Anyone with information on Jones’ whereabouts is asked to call 911 or the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team at (704)336-VCAT.
