Two women shot in home invasion

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are searching for a man accused of shooting two women in an apparent home invasion early Friday.

The shooting occurred around 4 a.m. at a residence in the 2200 block of Alma Court near Statesville Avenue.

The victims told police that a man they didn’t know broke into the residence and began firing, striking both women. The suspect then allegedly took jewelry before fleeing the area.

WSOC-TV reported that the man had told the woman he needed help before forcing his way into the home.

The two victims, who were not identified, were taken to the hospital with what were described as life-threatening injuries. But police said both appeared to be in stable condition as of about 8 a.m. Friday.

The shooting remains under investigation.
