Lots of choices for health care

Mecklenburg County is home to two large and competitive health care systems – Carolinas HealthCare System and Presbyterian Healthcare.

These systems own multiple hospitals and doctors’ practices and offer a wide range of state-of-the-art medical services, from cancer and heart disease to pediatrics and maternity care.

Carolinas HealthCare is a nonprofit, tax-exempt governmental entity – the second largest public system in the country. It owns or manages more than 30 hospitals from the North Carolina mountains to the South Carolina coast.

Presbyterian is part of Novant Health, a private nonprofit system based in Winston-Salem. It owns 13 hospitals in the Carolinas and Virginia.

Other hospitals in the Charlotte region are operated by private nonprofit CaroMont Health in Gaston County, for-profit Tenet Healthcare in Rock Hill and for-profit Health Management Associates in Mooresville.
