Charlotte’s media stars shine in the areas of news and entertainment.
At WBTV (Channel 3), top anchors are Paul Cameron and Maureen O’Boyle. Cameron joined WBTV 31 years ago in the sports department. O’Boyle grew up in Charlotte and came to the station in 2004.At WSOC (Channel 9), Erica Bryant and Blair Miller are prime anchors. Bryant joined WSOC in 2004 and also does investigative reports. Miller came in 2002. Both worked together before coming to Charlotte at a station in Charleston.At WCCB (Fox Charlotte, Channel 18), Morgan Fogarty and Israel Balderas anchor the 10 p.m. newscast. Fogarty joined the station in 2005 and Balderas, who is a licensed attorney, came in 2011. Both started on the station’s morning show, “Fox News Rising.”At WCNC (Channel 36), Dave Wagner and Sonja Gantt are prime anchors. Wagner joined WCNC in 2008 and does investigative reporting in addition to anchor duties. Gantt grew up in Charlotte and is the daughter of former Charlotte mayor Harvey Gantt.In radio, Charlotte is the home base to several nationally syndicated shows. Bob Lacey and Sheri Lynch broadcast “Bob & Sheri” from WLNK-FM (“Link” 107.9). Also, Matt Harris and Ramona Holloway’s afternoon show “Matt and Ramona” is syndicated from the station. Longtime morning hosts “John Boy & Billy” of “The Big Show” are heard across the South, broadcasting from the Clear Channel studios off Billy Graham Parkway. Those studios are also the home of “Ace & T.J.,” who have a regional following on other stations. “John Boy & Billy” is carried on WRFX-FM (“Fox” 99.7) and “Ace & T.J.” is heard on WHQC-FM (“Channel” 96.1).Other top morning hosts in Charlotte include Paul Schadt on WKKT-FM (“Kat” 96.9), Rob Tanner on WSOC-FM (103.7), “No Limit Larry and the Morning Maddhouse” on WPEG-FM (“Power 98” 97.9) and “Woody & Wilcox” on WEND-FM (“End” 106.5).Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012
