311 help line, media center to share DNC info

CHARLOTTE, N.C. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg 311 call center will be open for extended hours starting later this week to help answer questions from the public about how the Democratic National Convention is affecting local services and other issues.

Starting Friday, the city-county call center will run daily from 7 a.m. until 1 a.m. The extended hours will end at 1 a.m. Sept. 7.

Updates also will be posted online at dncinfo.charlottenc.gov

Meanwhile, local and state agencies have set up a “joint information center” to handle media requests on public operations during the DNC. The center will be open for part of the day Friday and Saturday then will go to an around-the-clock operation beginning Sunday morning. More than 50 information officers from city, county and state agencies will run the center from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center.
