CHARLOTTE, N.C. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg 311 call center will be open for extended hours starting later this week to help answer questions from the public about how the Democratic National Convention is affecting local services and other issues.
Starting Friday, the city-county call center will run daily from 7 a.m. until 1 a.m. The extended hours will end at 1 a.m. Sept. 7.

Meanwhile, local and state agencies have set up a “joint information center” to handle media requests on public operations during the DNC. The center will be open for part of the day Friday and Saturday then will go to an around-the-clock operation beginning Sunday morning. More than 50 information officers from city, county and state agencies will run the center from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center.
