Charlotte gets dissed as 'second-tier city'

International news agency Reuters has reported Charlotte's DNC performance may not "live up to the parties of the past," and quoted a Washington lobbyist calling Charlotte prospects "grim."

Lobbyist Heather Podesta, the story says, scouted 30 restaurants here earlier in the year. "Going to the NASCAR Hall of Fame isn't reason enough to be in Charlotte."

The article says: "Democratic insiders see less enthusiasm on the part of the party faithful. Fewer politicians will be making the trip to a second-tier host city with few cultural attractions."

Democrats are trying to spend less money this year than four years ago, the story contends, "and many were already less than enthusiastic about spending a week in Charlotte, which is known more for its banks than its cultural amenities."
