Ammonia leak reported in southwest Charlotte

Charlotte firefighters have cleared the scene of an ammonia leak at a Siemens Energy facility in southwest Charlotte. No injuries have been reported.

The chemical leak was reported in the 5100 block of Westinghouse Boulevard around 6 a.m. Thursday. Charlotte Fire Capt. Dennis Gist said the ammonia leak is in a 120-pound tank located on the exterior of the building away from the main facility.

Gist said a sprinkler head activated and is helping to contain the leak. Firefighters were able to control the incident within 55 minutes, officials said.

There are currently no reports of injuries, and Gist said no evacuations were ordered.
