Eclectic wallpaper
This is not your mother's floral wallpaper. If you like the look of The Diamond restaurant's campy-retro kitchen print or the literal feel of the luxe, velveteen flocked paper at Hef's Bar and Grill on Woodlawn, you can recreate it at home, thanks to Walnut. This paper is pricey, but they offer everything from snowflake patterns on shiny foil to eye-bending mod geometrics, victorian-esque toile, printed plaid and even, oh yes, Star Wars. All wallpaper samples are $3.50, prices for entire rolls vary. www.walnutwallpaper.com. Hilary Trenda

Beats a bungee cord
If you haul bulky loads in the trunk of the family sedan and are less than thrilled with bungee cords, check out TrunkStrap, by Charlotte inventor Gail Bruce. It's basically a two-piece strap that buckles together and lets you adjust it to keep the trunk lid and load in place. We gave it a test drive and were impressed. The strap is a breeze to attach and prevents the lid from bouncing around, which can happen with stretchy cords; $19.95 at www.trunkstrap.com and available at some stores.
