Power lines fall on crashed vehicle

Firefighters said someone was trapped inside a vehicle by fallen power lines after a crash early Sunday in west Charlotte.

The wreck was reported around 2:45 a.m. on Ashley Road near Alleghany Street. Charlotte firefighters soon arrived at the scene but had to wait for Duke Energy workers because power lines had fallen on top of the vehicle.

Firefighters said it took them 47 minutes to complete the rescue.

Two people were taken to an area hospital. The extent of their injuries wasn’t immediately available.

Firefighters said drivers should expect traffic delays in the area of the crash.
