    How the poll was done

The poll was a telephone survey of 1,089 likely North Carolina voters from Aug. 25-30. The margin of error is three percentage points.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Nine weeks before the election, Republican Pat McCrory enjoys a double-digit lead over Democrat Walter Dalton in North Carolina’s gubernatorial race, according to an Elon University Poll released Monday.

The poll, a partnership with the Observer and the News & Observer of Raleigh, also showed the economy contributing to Republican Mitt Romney’s 4-point lead over President Barack Obama in the state.

Elon surveyed 1,089 likely voters from Aug. 25-30, during the Republican National Convention.

In the governor’s race, McCrory led Dalton 52 percent to 37 percent.

McCrory has led Dalton in most other polls.
