CLINTON, N.C. Six people are recovering from gunshots and other injuries after an early morning dispute led to a violent crash and flying bullets.
Clinton police say the dispute started early Monday and led to a high-speed chase as the occupants of an Acura Legend fled pursuers in a Pontiac on N.C. Highway 24.
The Acura rear-ended a pickup truck not involved in the chase inside Clinton's city limits. The truck slammed into a utility pole and overturned. The Acura stopped cold with massive damage.
Investigators say the Pontiac stopped at the wreck scene, leading to a shootout before the driver fled.
Besides the couple in the truck, four occupants of the cars in the chase were being treated at a Sampson County hospital. Two suffered gunshot wounds.
