Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged a 20-year-old man with murder after they say he fatally shot a man Wednesday in a north Charlotte neighborhood.
Brandon Newkirk also faces two counts of armed robbery in connection with the death of Zachary Jamal Pittman, 25. Police said the men had previously arranged a drug deal before the shooting.
The shooting was reported about 8:45 p.m., and police said Pittman’s body was found in the 10000 block of English Setter Drive.
Police say they were called about shots being fired at Yellow Rose Lane and Terrier Way, in a neighborhood near Eastfield and Browne roads. A short time later, police got another call about a suspicious person nearby on English Setter Drive.
Investigators said early Thursday morning they believe some sort of dispute happened at Yellow Rose Lane and Terrier Way, and Pittman ran to English Setter Drive before collapsing.
