Tom Brokaw: 'All is well' after brief hospital trip

CHARLOTTE, N.C. NBC News correspondent Tom Brokaw was taken to a Charlotte-area hospital on Thursday morning after he felt light-headed, the network confirmed.

On his Twitter page, Brokaw wrote that he had mistakenly taken a sleeping pill this morning but said he was doing fine.

“All is well,” said Brokaw, 72. “Early AM I mistakenly took a half dose of Ambien and made less sense than usual. Made a better comeback than Giants...”

Brokaw, 72, had just appeared Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program when the network said he felt light-headed. The show is being filmed this week at BlackFinn Saloon at the EpiCentre.

The network said in a statement that Brokaw was being evaluated at a local hospital “out of an abundance of caution” and “is in good spirits.”

His hospitalization was first reported by TVNewser.

Brokaw, the former longtime anchor of NBC Nightly News, has covered political conventions since 1968. He has made frequent appearances on the network and other places, including on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.”

When you're famous, it's hard to get any privacy. When you're somebody famous in Charlotte, which runs a bit low on the famous, you can pretty much guarantee no privacy. That's what Tom Brokaw discovered this morning, when he had to be rushed to the hospital.
