The Democratic National Convention is gone, and the Charlotte area is dealing with more typical traffic problems this Friday evening.
The biggest problems at 6:30 p.m. are on the interstate highways, where congestion is slowing traffic. But there also is a wreck on Interstate 40 west of Statesville, affecting westbound traffic.
Here’s the summary as of 6:30 p.m.:
-- I-40 westbound, west of Statesville ... A wreck is blocking the left lane near mile marker 141 (Sharon School Road). That is about 10 miles west of Statesville, and traffic is slowed to 20 mph for about 4 miles.
-- I-485 outer loop, south Mecklenburg ... Typical congestion delays, with stop-and-go traffic from I-77 to Providence Road. No wrecks, though.
-- I-85 northbound, northeast Mecklenburg ... Typical congestion delays, with stop-and-go traffic from Harris Boulevard up past Bruton Smith Boulevard.
-- I-77 northbound, from Sunset Road to Lake Norman ... Unusually heavy traffic, with average speeds of 5 to 10 mph.
-- I-77 southbound, near Lake Norman ... Very slow traffic from Mooresville down to Davidson. Average speeds are 10 to 15 mph.
-- Wendover Road near Independence Boulevard ... A collision with injuries. Moderate delays. Avoid the area until 7 p.m.
-- Pineville-Matthews Road, near Carolina Place Mall ... Heavy congestion.
