We ask 10 questions of Panthers WR Louis Murphy, the former Oakland Raiders wideout who grew up in St. Petersburg, Fla., and played with Cam Newton for two seasons at Florida.
Q: This is like a home game for you this week, right? Did you get a chance to see your family?
Yeah. I got a chance to see my family. First time (playing) at home since Ive been in the NFL. Its going to be a great experience.
Q: How many tickets did you have to get?
I got a couple (laughs). I had to get a couple. Its part of it. Im just excited to see my family and play in front of the home crowd.
Q: Did you get to take any teammates anywhere this week or recommend any restaurants?
Most of the time I just spent time with family. My grandmothers 77th birthday was (this week). The whole familys coming down, so Ill get a chance to see her.
Q: Was there a restaurant you had to get to this week?
Theres a couple. Most of them are over in St. Petersburg that I know of. Ive been kind of far removed. Theres one restaurant on St. Pete Beach. I cant think of the name of it right now.
Q: I take it theyre known for seafood?
Seafood, man. Im a seafood eater. Get some fresh grouper when its in season, fresh oysters. Im a seafood guy.
Q: You struggled with injuries and other things last year in Oakland. How nice is it to be getting a new start?
Its great. I started my first two years and got hurt last year. I was looking forward to my third year, too, being a real breakout year. This year I feel good, great chemistry with my teammates and coaches. I feel excited.
Q: Are you expecting to catch a lot of passes from that No. 3 receiver spot?
With the way this offense goes, anybody can make a play at any given time. So Im just ready when my numbers called.
Q: How cool is to be playing with Cam again?
Its great, man. Enthusiastic, all about ball, just a real football player and just excited to be back with him again. He can sling it around. Im just excited to be on the other end of those passes.
Q: People have mentioned the so-called sophomore slump in relation to Cam. Do you think hell avoid it?
Yeah. He puts in a lot of hard work. I dont see him falling off any time soon.
Q: You left a Raiders team that went 8-8 the past two seasons. Do you think youre joining a team thats got a legitimate playoff shot?
Yeah, definitely. Especially with the leaders on our team and coach Rivera, I think we have a very good chance of making it.
