The N.C. Public Charter Schools Association will hold an Oct. 11 forum in Charlotte for groups interested in opening new charter schools in 2014.
Charter schools are public schools run by independent nonprofit boards. They must be authorized by the state, which recently lifted its 100-school cap on charters. The N.C. Board of Education recently approved 25 new charters for 2013-14.
Eddie Goodall of Weddington, a former state senator who leads the association, will host the information session, set for 1-7:30 p.m. at the University Hilton. Cost is $79, or $49 each if there are two or more in a group; the event includes a dinner and reception afterward. Registration: www.ncpubliccharters.org Ann Doss Helms
