CMS enrollment growing faster than expected

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has just over 141,000 K-12 students so far this year, about 1,000 more than officials had projected and 3,000 more than last year, Superintendent Heath Morrison said Tuesday.

N.C. public schools take their formal enrollment tally on the 20th day of school, which comes later this month. Morrison said high school enrollment, especially at Hough High School in Cornelius, has been above projections by the largest margin.

CMS also has about 3,100 4-year-old prekindergarten students, who started classes this week. Ann Doss Helms
