Landscape design and renovation

This three-part workshop series will teach students to correctly chose and place plants in basic principles of design that will add specific functions – recreation, privacy, etc. – with limited upkeep. The first class will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Parks and Recreation, 416 Armour St., Davidson. Following classes will be held at the same time and place every Thursday through Oct. 4. Festival in the Park

This free, three-day festival celebrates its 48th year of spotlighting the regional diversity of visual arts and crafts, performance arts and live music around Charlotte. This family-friendly event has been recognized by the Southeast Tourism Society as one of the “Top 20 Events in the Southeast.” The festival runs from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Charlotte’s Freedom Park, 1900 East Blvd. For a full event lineup and parking instructions: www.festivalinthepark.org
