Cabarrus gathering of teen drivers to celebrate safe driving

Cabarrus celebration Saturday at Northwest Cabarrus High

Teens have a chance to win a new car, and to vote for their high school to win a $100,000 grant, at a celebration 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 15 at Northwest Cabarrus High School.

The “Celebrate My Drive” gathering is intended to celebrate the milestone of getting a driver’s license and committing to stay safe, according to a news release from the event organizers..

The Cabarrus County celebration is part of a nationwide gathering of new teen drivers on Sept. 15. It represents a new, more positive, research-based approach to teen driver safety. Focusing on what teens can do empowers them and holds promise of getting the urgency of the issue across to young drivers, according to the news release.

The event is hosted by State Farm, Street Safe, Northwest Cabarrus High, Dying Changes Everything/Bracelets for Brian, Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Kannapolis Police Department.

The school is at 5130 Northwest Cabarrus Drive, off Trinity Church Road in Kannapolis. Scott Verner
