Deputy serving warrant sees pot plant by window

A 22-year-old man is facing drug charges after a deputy serving a civil warrant noticed a marijuana plant sitting by a window in a Lincolnton home.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Dennis Long went to a home on Old Lincolnton Crouse Road on Thursday to serve a warrant. No one came to the door, authorities said.

That’s when Long peered into a window, spotting a marijuana plant that had apparently been placed in the sun, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy contacted narcotics officers, who searched the home. Authorities said they found a growing marijuana plant, as well as seven ounces of marijuana worth $600.

Authorities arrested Michael Alan Chapman, charging him with possession of a controlled substance, manufacturing a controlled substance, maintaining a dwelling or vehicle for a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was released from Lincoln County jail after posting bond.
