Last month there was a great story about a woman who was at a burger joint and noticed an odd deduction on her receipt. Best Looking was itemized along with her veggie bowl and fried pickles. A compliment that discounted her meal by $.02. And Ive been reviewing my restaurant receipts closely ever since.
So far, all I see is burger and Diet Coke. I thought I might have more luck at the grocery store, since there are more people ringing me up. Today I saw I saved $4.30 at the Harris Teeter, and thought, Dang, I look good! But it was just the discounts from my VIC card.
They should do that, though. And not just restaurants, but all vendors. And not for just looking good, but for what were actually doing props and a consolation prize for doing what it is that we do as moms all day long.
Starting with Michaels. A receipt with poster board, glue stick, markers and glitter for my kids school project deserves a Best Helper (-$.05). And a T-shirt, paint and Bedazzler, should get me a Best Patience (- $.10).
Party City Best Birthday Host (-$.15) for all the football-themed party items of football plates, football napkins, football cups, football pennants, tiny football helmet party favors, and a giant Mylar balloon in the shape of you got it a football.
Costco Best Provider (- $.20). For feeding the masses. And for being willing to drag all that stuff out of my car, one item at a time. And for finding a place to store all that toilet paper.
Belk Best Shopper (-$.25). For getting little boys into a pair of shorts made of cotton vs. nylon. Or any item of clothing that doesnt have elastic. And throw in an extra $.10 off for every item with a button. Or a sleeve.
Target Best Overhaul (-$.50). Per Room. New towels for the bathroom, new sheets for the bed, a nice cork board for the kitchen. New laundry basket, shoe organizer, matching silver frames, and a whisk not because I need it, but so that people think I bake.
Anyway, its just a thought. But really, the compliment we all need and appreciate most is still Best Looking. But it should be worth a lot more of a discount.
Thats just my 2 cents.
