4-year-old CMS student recovers from hit-run incident

A 4-year-old girl who was struck by a motorist who blew past a stopped school bus Monday morning is recovering from her injuries Tuesday.

The girl, Kaaliyah Miller, hopes to return to classes Tuesday in the pre-K program at Westerly Hills Academy in west Charlotte, her mother, Tiffany Miller, told Observer news partner NewsChannel 36.

Kaaliyah was waiting in her mother’s car shortly before 8 a.m. on Afton Lane at Thornton Road. When the bus arrived, the little girl got out of the car and began walking to the bus.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials say a motorist behind the stopped bus suddenly pulled around the bus and ran over Kaaliyah’s right foot. Witnesses say the driver of the burgundy sedan stopped momentarily, then drove off.

“It’s sad and it’s sick,” Tiffany Miller told WCNC. “I would like to see the person responsible for this to come forward and take responsibility for their actions.”

Tiffany Miller says her daughter has swelling and bruises on her foot.

Police ask that anyone with information in the case call Crime Stoppers, 704-334-1600.
