Man charged in robbery at sweepstakes center

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested a man suspected in an armed robbery at a sweepstakes center.

Michael Antoine Wright, 40, is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and first degree kidnapping. He was being held Tuesday in the Mecklenburg County jail under a $100,000 bond.

Wright was arrested in connection with a robbery that occurred around 9:30 p.m. Monday at the Pot O Gold Sweepstakes Center on Old Pineville Road.

A man told police that the suspect had approached a counter at the sweepstakes center, and displayed a pistol before demanding money. The victim gave the suspect money, then police said the suspect moved the victim to a bathroom and "told him not to come out," according to a news release.

In a news release, police said evidence gathered at the scene led them to Wright. He was arrested at his home a short time later, police said.
