Fire destroys vacant Gaston home

Investigators are working to determine what caused the fire that destroyed a vacant home early Tuesday in Gaston County.

Just before 6:15 a.m., firefighters were called to a reported fire near the intersection of Chriscoe and Birchfield lanes. The area is just off U.S. 321, south of Gastonia.

Crews arriving at the scene saw the home engulfed in fire with flames coming from the roof, windows and doors, said Chris Stowe, spokesman for Crowder’s Mountain Fire & Rescue

It took firefighters more than 30 minutes to extinguish the flames, Stowe said. The home is a total loss.

No injuries were reported.

The blaze is being examined by the Gaston County Fire Investigations Task Force.
