Two people were hurt in a three-vehicle wreck involving a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police cruiser Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 77.

The crash took place near mile marker 12 on the northbound lanes around 4 p.m.

An officer had stopped a white sedan on the shoulder of the interstate when a black truck crashed into both the patrol car and the white sedan.

As of 4:45 p.m., one of four lanes was blocked and backups extended to the Clanton Road exit.

Two people were transported with non-life threatening injuries to a nearby hospital. Officials said the officer jumped out of the way before the wreck and was not hurt.
