This free lunch and learn will run from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the NC Cooperative Extension, 1418 Armory Drive. Mecklenburg County Extension Consumer Horticulture Agent Scott Ewers will explain how to spot and manage common turf weed, disease, insect and pest problems. Stargazing at Fisher Farm

The Davidson Land Conservancy will host free stargazing from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at Fisher Farm Park, 21215 Shearer Road, Davidson. The physics department from Davidson College and the Charlotte Astronomy Club will provide equipment and expertise. Attendees can bring their own telescopes and all are asked to bring a flashlight, keep car lights dimmed and drive slowly into Fisher Farm to keep dust and glare from interfering with viewing. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed.
