SHELBY -- Two men are jailed after a Shelby resident was shot and killed in front of his house during an argument Thursday evening, police say.
Another man was wounded by gunfire but is expected to survive.
Killed in the shooting was John Albert Cummings, 54, who lived in the 800 block of McGowan Road.
According to police, the argument that led to the shooting was among two other men -- 54-year-old Ronnie Len Pearson of Mooresboro, and 49-year-old Sherman Timothy Lee of Shelby. Investigators say that during the dispute, Lee pulled out a gun and started firing.
One bullet hit Pearson in the stomach, and the other killed Cummings, according to investigators. Pearson was taken to Cleveland Regional Medical Center and is expected to survive, police say.
Police say they have charged Lee with murder and assault with a deadly weapon. David Williams, 49, of Shelby, described by police as an accomplice to Lee, also was charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Lee and Williams are jailed without bond.
Police ask that anyone with information in the case call them at 704-484-6845, or contact Crime Stoppers, 704-481-8477.
