The eight-member North Mecklenburg High Debate & Speech Team attended the Wake Forest Earlybird Invitational Tournament in Winston-Salem earlier this month. It was the first national-level competition of the season.
Seniors Irfan Mekic, Abby Auerbach and David Suarez, juniors Ebony Hargro and Danielle LaFleur and sophomore Abhi Kulgod competed as public forum teams; junior Alex Pope and senior Taylor Barrett were orators. Taylor reached the semifinal round in Impromptu Speaking and the finals in Original Oratory, taking sixth place overall.
